The 2020 Toyota Tundra is a single-engine truck: every configuration, from SR to TRD Pro, runs the 5.7L V8 (3UR-FE). What changes across the nine cab and trim combinations is equipment — and on this model year some of that equipment, the LED headlight assemblies in particular, carries a recall history of its own.

Known issues on the 2020 Tundra. Five recalls are on federal record for this truck. Two of them fall on the hydraulic power assist steering: one covers power steering gear assemblies that may have been manufactured incorrectly, the other covers JTEKT power steering gear assembly service parts, and in both cases an oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. A third covers the fuel pump — if the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. A fourth is a turn signal recall on trucks equipped with LED headlight assemblies, where a wiring error affects the front turn signals; the concern is that the turn signals or hazard lamps do not flash brightly enough. The fifth covers the headlights: the headlight electrical circuits may power the high and low beams simultaneously, and an overheated electrical connector can increase the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 54 complaints against this model year, and 138 technical service bulletins are on record for it.
A power steering leak, a stall that points back at the fuel pump, a headlight circuit running hot — those are the failures this truck is known for, and each one is worked against Toyota's own procedure and the specification for the 2020 Tundra.
