Known issues on the 2009 Tundra. 12 recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two cover the hydraulic power assist steering — one on JTEKT power steering gear assembly service parts, one on vehicles whose power steering gear assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly — where an oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. Three cover the tire pressure monitoring and regulating systems: on two, drivers will not receive a warning from the tire pressure monitor, and on the third, failure to warn of tire deflations is a non-compliance with FMVSS 138 and could lead to tire failure. Two cover the accelerator pedal — one where the pedal may become hard to depress or slow to return to idle, one where a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. Three cover labels: incorrect load carrying capacity modification labels could result in the vehicle being overloaded, a driver may overload a vehicle which may increase the risk of a crash, and on the third the labelling does not meet the standard requirements. One covers the power window devices and controls, where, if the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture can get in. The last covers the front seat heater: if damaged, the copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.
