Known issues on the 2016 Tundra. Six recalls are on federal record for this truck. The first (17V416000) covers the passenger knee air bag module, which was attached to the instrument panel mount; the incorrect bolts may cause the air bag module to loosen over time. The second (17V051000) covers trucks built with a resin rear step bumper and resin reinforcement brackets: if a person steps on the corner of the bumper that is damaged, a portion of the bumper may break. Two further campaigns (21E103000 and 21V920000) concern the hydraulic power steering gear assembly — one covering JTEKT power steering gear assembly service parts, the other covering gear assemblies that may have been manufactured incorrectly — and in both an oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. A fifth (17V311000) applies to trucks accessorized with Southeast Toyota 20-inch Rockstar wheels, where lugnuts that crack and detach may cause the wheels to separate from the vehicle. The sixth (16V420000), also from Southeast Toyota, concerns the Load Carrying Capacity label: an incorrect label may lead an owner to overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 152 complaints against the 2016 Tundra, and 111 technical service bulletins have been issued for it.
