Known issues on the 2005 Tundra. Twelve recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the exhaust system on pickup trucks equipped with both vehicle stability control (VSC) and the TRD dual exhaust system: that system met all clearance specifications on models without VSC, and in this condition the exhaust pipe flange may rub against the right rear brake line. Two concern the front control arm lower ball joint. On the first, possible improper finishing of the front suspension lower ball joint means some ball joints may experience an incidental deterioration of the internal lubrication. The second covers aftermarket MOOG and NAPA replacement ball joints, where a ball joint failure may cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash. Four cover the passenger frontal air bag inflator, two of them naming the inflator module itself, where an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. A further frontal air bag recall applies to trucks with automatic transmissions and the optional fabric front captain's chairs, which fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208; as a result, vehicle occupants will not be made aware of whether or not the air bag is activated. One covers the side curtain-shield air bags, which if they deploy unexpectedly can increase the risk of occupant injury. Two are label recalls against Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, tire selection and rims: the labelling does not meet the standard requirements, and a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash. The last covers the front seat heater, whose copper strand heating element may short circuit if damaged, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have submitted 491 complaints against the 2005 Tundra, and 104 technical service bulletins are on record for it.
