Known issues on the 2002 Tundra. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. One is a structure recall covering the frame, its members and the underbody shields on 2000-2003 Tundras originally sold in or currently registered in a named list of states, where separation of the spare tire and diminished brake capacity could increase the risk of a crash. A second covers the front suspension lower control arm ball joint: a manufacturing issue may have left the surface of the ball scratched, and the lower ball joint may separate from the knuckle, causing loss of steering control. The third is an exterior lighting recall filed against aftermarket combination corner and bumper lamp assemblies of various part numbers sold for use on various passenger vehicles, where decreased lighting visibility may result in a vehicle crash. Owners have filed 645 complaints against the 2002 Tundra, and 77 technical service bulletins have been issued for the model year.
