Known issues on the 2017 Tundra. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year, and two of them land on the same system. Both steering campaigns involve the hydraulic power assist system: one recalls JTEKT power steering gear assembly service parts supplied for 2007-2021 Tundra and 2008-2022 Sequoia models, the other covers gear assemblies that may have been manufactured incorrectly on 2007-2021 Tundra and 2008-2022 Sequoia vehicles, and in each case an oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. A third recall covers body structure on 2016-2017 Tundras built with a resin rear step bumper and resin reinforcement brackets: if a person steps on the corner of a bumper that is damaged, a portion of the bumper may break. The fourth, from Southeast Toyota Distributors, covers wheel lug nuts on 2013-2017 Tundra and Sequoia trucks fitted with accessory 20-inch Rockstar wheels, where lug nuts that crack and detach may cause the wheels to separate from the vehicle.
