Toyota sold the 2008 Tundra with three quite different engines, and this factory service and repair manual is the one written for this model year and for the engine and trim your truck actually left the line with, whether that is the 4.0L V6 (1GR-FE), the 4.7L V8 (2UZ-FE) or the 5.7L V8 (3UR-FE). The clearances, tightening sequences and test values it gives are Toyota's own for that combination, not numbers that happen to fit the same body in a different year.

Known issues on the 2008 Tundra. Twelve recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two of them cover the hydraulic power assist steering: on one the power steering gear assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, and the other covers JTEKT power steering gear assembly service parts, with the same consequence in both cases, an oil leak that may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist and increase the risk of a crash. Two cover the accelerator pedal, one where the pedal may become hard to depress or slow to return to idle, and one where a pedal stuck in the wide open position may result in very high vehicle speeds. Two cover the tire pressure monitoring system, where drivers will not receive a warning from the tire pressure monitor, and where failure to warn of tire deflations could lead to tire failure. Four are labeling defects: incorrect load carrying capacity modification labels that could result in the vehicle being overloaded, an inaccurate label that could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires, a tire and rim label that does not meet the standard requirements, and a fourth in which a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash. The remaining two are fire risks: a power window switch that may melt if it overheats, and a front seat heater whose copper strand heating element may short circuit if it is damaged. Owners have logged 459 complaints for the year and Toyota has issued 107 technical service bulletins. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
Tracing a power steering leak, diagnosing a tire pressure monitor that never warns, or working a scheduled service on the 5.7L V8, it holds the job to Toyota's own procedure and the right figure for your 2008 Tundra.
