1996 Chevrolet Astro Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 Chevrolet Astro arrives with a revised trim list — Base, LS and LT — over unchanged mechanicals: the 262-cubic-inch 4.3-liter overhead-valve V6, naturally aspirated on gasoline, in three-door cargo and passenger vans of standard and extended length. Four body styles, one engine, three equipment levels. The manual's structure follows that arithmetic, with shared chassis and engine chapters and body-specific wiring, glass and interior trim sections for each of the four vans.

Known issues on the 1996 Astro. Seven recalls are logged against the 1996 van. One covers a right-hand rear belt whose webbing can separate under crash load, leaving that occupant unrestrained. Another involves integrated child seats missing a retractor spring, so the belt either locks up or fails to hold. A third is a wiper motor that stops when its controller board's solder joints crack. Others cover a belt reminder chime that may not sound, a leak-prone replacement fuel filter, and lamps without amber reflectors. Suspension leads the 300 complaints at 59, with visibility at 57.
