1985 Chevrolet Astro Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1985 Chevrolet Astro covers the van in both of its forms, passenger and cargo, each a three-door standard-length body. Two engines are documented: a 4.3-liter overhead-valve V6 of 262 cubic inches and a 2.5-liter overhead-valve inline-four of 151 cubic inches, both naturally aspirated and both gasoline. Base, CL and CS make up the trim range. Because the four and the V6 share little beyond their mounting points, the engine chapters are kept apart from one another throughout.

Known issues on the 1985 Astro. Six recalls attach to this year on the federal record. One concerns the part of the steering gear housing that bolts to the frame, which can break and take steering control with it. Another describes a driver's seat recliner joint softened by trapped foam or vinyl, so the bolts lose torque, fatigue and eventually fail, letting the seat back drop away under the driver. A third covers a replacement fuel filter that can seal poorly at its connection and leak. Owner complaints number only six, two of them on steering — the system whose gear, linkage and column procedures are set out here in detail.
