This factory service and repair manual for the 1987 Chevrolet Astro adds an LT to the Base, CL and CS trim list while the hardware underneath stays as before: a 4.3-liter overhead-valve V6 of 262 cubic inches or a 2.5-liter overhead-valve four of 151, naturally aspirated, gasoline, in a three-door standard passenger van or the equivalent cargo body. The manual works system by system across both — engine mechanical and management, driveline, chassis, body and electrical — with specifications called out per engine wherever the two diverge.

Known issues on the 1987 Astro. Five recalls sit on the federal record here. One involves front and mid-ship belts that ride above the pelvis instead of across it, so an occupant is not properly held in a sudden stop. Another is the recliner joint that loses bolt torque, fatigues and lets a seat back fall backward. The remaining three cover a leak-prone replacement fuel filter and two sets of replacement lamps missing their amber side reflectors. Steering leads the 32 complaints with 11, ahead of seven on seat belts, and the steering column, gear and restraint sections apply directly.
