This factory service and repair manual for the 1989 Chevrolet Astro keeps the same two engines in front of the same two bodies. The engines are a naturally aspirated 4.3-liter V6 of 262 cubic inches and a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four of 151, both overhead-valve and gasoline; the bodies are three-door standard vans built either for passengers or for cargo. Four trims are covered, Base, CL, CS and LT. Chassis, brake and body sections are shared, while fuel, ignition and cooling specifications are set out engine by engine.

Known issues on the 1989 Astro. Six recalls are on the federal record for this model year, and three of them involve occupant restraint. Front and mid-ship belts can lie above the pelvis instead of across it; an anchorage bar for the rear seat cannot hold the load a belt would put through it in a crash; and a seat recliner joint softened by trapped trim loses bolt torque until the fasteners fail and the backrest gives way. A leaking replacement fuel filter and two lamp assemblies without amber reflectors complete the list. Steering tops the 63 complaints at 14, with seat belts at 10.
