This factory service and repair manual for the 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo spans four trims, LS, LT, LTZ and SS, and three overhead-valve engines in one two-door coupe: a 3.9L V6 of 237 cubic inches, a 3.5L V6 of 213 cubic inches able to run on flex fuel or gasoline, and a 5.3L V8 of 325 cubic inches. All three are naturally aspirated. The flex fuel capability of the 3.5L gives the fuel system section extra ground to cover, and the V8 brings cooling, exhaust and driveline specifications of its own alongside the two sixes.

Known issues on the 2006 Monte Carlo. Just two recalls attach to this model year federally. One concerns an ignition switch that can be knocked out of the run position by a loaded key ring, which can leave the air bags unable to deploy in a crash and can cut engine power while the car is moving. The other covers replacement steering knuckles with a material or design defect that can let the knuckle break without warning, taking steering control with it. Owners have logged 113 complaints, the largest groups on the power train at 26, the electrical system at 25 and steering at 21.
