1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo has two engines to work through rather than a long list: the 5.0L V8 of 305 cubic inches and the 4.3L V6 of 262 cubic inches, both overhead-valve, naturally aspirated and fueled by gasoline. They go into a single two-door coupe body sold as Base, LS or SS. With two engines and one shell, the specifications and torque values stay compact, and a technician looking up a clearance has one fewer branch to follow before reaching the right number.

Known issues on the 1988 Monte Carlo. Two recalls are on the federal record for this year, and both arrived as replacement parts fitted during service. One covers fuel filters that can seal inadequately where they connect, allowing fuel to escape toward a possible ignition source. The other covers oil filters that can seal poorly enough to lose engine oil and start a fire. Three owner complaints are on record, two on the seats and one on the suspension. Filter service, fuel line fittings, seat anchorage and suspension geometry all carry procedures, specifications and torque values in this manual.
