This factory service and repair manual for the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo describes a single body, the two-door coupe, in LS and SS trim, with the 3.4L V6 of 207 cubic inches and the 3.8L V6 of 231 cubic inches as the two engine choices. Both are overhead-valve and naturally aspirated on gasoline. Because the bodies are identical and the engines are not, the body, glass and interior work reads straight through, while anyone in the engine bay has to confirm displacement before a torque value or a clearance applies.

Known issues on the 2001 Monte Carlo. Eight recalls are recorded federally for this year. In one, the air bag sensing and diagnostic module can suffer a memory error and leave the bags undeployed in a crash. In another, engine oil can reach the hot exhaust manifold and ignite beneath the heat shield. A third, covering replacement intermediate steering shafts, describes a weld that can fail and take the steering with it. Complaints number 285, led by the electrical system at 51, engine cooling at 41 and steering at 40, a spread that matches the wiring diagrams, engine diagnostics and steering procedures given here.
