This factory service and repair manual for the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is written for a two-door coupe in LS and SS trim with a choice of two pushrod V6s, the 3.4L of 207 cubic inches and the 3.8L of 231 cubic inches. Neither is force fed and both burn gasoline, so induction and emissions work follows one general pattern, but ignition timing, torque sequences and cooling system specifications are listed per engine, and the wiring diagrams have to account for the equipment split between the two trims.

Known issues on the 2000 Monte Carlo. Eight recalls stand on the federal record for this year. One concerns an ignition switch that can be knocked out of the run position, leaving the air bags unable to deploy in a crash. Another traces a fuel pressure regulator leak into the intake manifold through a vacuum line, where a backfire during a long crank can rupture the manifold, displace a fuel line, pull an injector out of place and start a fire. A third covers seat belt buckle bases that were not heat treated to the required load strength. Of 249 complaints, engine cooling leads at 40, then the electrical system at 37.
