This factory service and repair manual for the 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo has six trim names to place on one two-door body: LS, LS Competition, LS Sport, SS, SS High Sport and SS Pace Car. Two engines serve them all, the 3.4L V6 of 207 cubic inches and the 3.8L V6 of 231 cubic inches, both overhead-valve, naturally aspirated and gasoline fueled. Known issues on the 2003 Monte Carlo. Eight items sit on this car's federal record, and they fall into three groups. One covers an ignition switch that can slip out of the run position, so the air bags may not deploy in a crash. Two describe engine oil that can be deposited on a hot exhaust manifold and ignite under the heat shield. Another concerns replacement steering knuckles that can break through a material or design defect and take steering control with them. Complaints total 157, led by the electrical system at 45, with engine and cooling reports close behind under two separate headings.
