Known issues on the 1984 Monte Carlo. Three recalls appear on the federal record. A replacement oil filter that seals poorly can let engine oil escape and raise a fire risk. In the cruise control, a small nylon bushing can slip out of place in the servo bail, producing unexpected rises in engine speed, run-on after the ignition is switched off, and a servo rod that can catch on engine components and hold the throttle open. The third covers front bucket seat back locks that may not hold the seat back in a crash. Four complaints are on record, spread across service brakes, the parking brake and steering.
