This factory service and repair manual for the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo covers three trims on one two-door coupe: LS, Z34 and an Indianapolis 500 Pace Car edition. Two overhead-valve V6s were fitted, the 3.8L of 231 cubic inches and the 3.1L of 189 cubic inches, both naturally aspirated and gasoline fueled. Known issues on the 1999 Monte Carlo. Five recalls sit on this year's federal record. Two describe engine oil finding its way onto a hot exhaust manifold, where it can catch alight below the heat shield and spread through the plastic spark plug wire channel into the engine compartment. Another involves a passenger air bag built without its check valve pin, so pressure runs high at the onset of deployment and low afterward, changing how the bag protects an occupant. Complaints total 135, weighted heavily toward the service brakes at 47 and engine cooling at 32, the systems whose diagnostics and torque values fill this manual.
