This factory service and repair manual for the 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo describes a two-door coupe sold as Base or SS with three engine choices: the 5.0L V8 of 305 cubic inches, the 3.8L V6 of 231 cubic inches and the 4.3L V6 of 262 cubic inches. All three are overhead-valve, naturally aspirated and fueled by gasoline, so the fuel and emissions material follows spark ignition throughout, and the torque values, clearances and diagnostic routines are given for each engine as it sits in the same coupe structure.

Known issues on the 1985 Monte Carlo. Both recalls on this year's federal record reach the car through service parts rather than the assembly line. One covers replacement fuel filters that can fail to seal at the connection, letting fuel escape where an ignition source could set it alight. The other covers replacement oil filters whose sealing can be poor enough to lose engine oil and start a fire. Four owner complaints are on record, two of them on the service brakes and one each on seat belts and tires. Fuel line connections, filter service and brake hydraulics are specified here in detail.
