This factory service and repair manual for the 2004 GMC Safari covers both wheelbases in both roles: standard and extended cargo vans, standard and extended passenger vans, all three-door, in Base, SLE and SLT trim. The only engine listed is the 262-cubic-inch 4.3L V6, an overhead-valve unit running naturally aspirated on gasoline. Wheelbase drives nearly all the variation in the chassis and body chapters while the powertrain content stays fixed, and specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostic procedures are indexed by system throughout.

Known issues on the 2004 Safari. The federal record carries two recalls against this van. In one, a replacement fuel filter seals imperfectly at its connection and lets fuel escape where an ignition source could reach it. In the other, aftermarket corner lamps, turn signals and headlights were supplied without the amber side reflectors the lighting standard requires, leaving the van poorly marked from the side. Only six owner complaints are logged, two of them on the suspension and one each on the service brakes and the fuel system. Front-end alignment, fuel delivery and brake hydraulics all have procedures and specifications in this book.
