Known issues on the 2003 Safari. Three recalls are on the federal record. The most serious is an interference between the lower ball joint boot and the steering knuckle: the boot can be cut, the joint loses its seal, and the knuckle can eventually separate from the lower control arm and drop that corner of the van onto the road. The others involve replacement fuel filters that may leak at their connection and replacement lamps missing amber side reflectors. Owner complaints total 27, led by 12 on the service brakes with two each on the air bags and the engine and cooling system.
