2001 GMC Safari Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2001 GMC Safari deals with a two-body lineup, the three-door extended cargo van and the three-door extended passenger van, in SL, SLE and SLT trim. Power comes from the 4.3L V6 alone: 262 cubic inches, overhead valves, natural aspiration, gasoline. Electrical faults matter more on a van this far into its life, and the wiring diagrams and diagnostic charts sit alongside the mechanical procedures, specifications and torque values that cover the engine, transmission, chassis and body.

Known issues on the 2001 Safari. Three recalls are on the federal record. The multifunction switch can develop an open circuit in the stop lamp or hazard lamp feed, so a following driver gets no warning that the van is braking or stopped. Replacement fuel filters may seal inadequately and leak. Replacement lamps supplied without amber side reflectors do not meet the lighting standard. Of 49 owner complaints, 16 concern the service brakes, eight the electrical system and six the steering, which is exactly where the lighting circuits and brake diagnostics in this manual apply.
ON CERTAIN MINIVANS, THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH MAY DEVELOP AN OPEN CIRCUIT CONDITION IN THE STOP LAMP OR HAZARD LAMP CIRCUIT THAT RESULTS IN THE STOP LAMPS AND HAZARD LAMPS BEING INOPERATIVE.
