This factory service and repair manual for the 1987 GMC Safari has to account for five trims, Base, SL, SLE, SLT and SLX, and for two body styles, a three-door standard cargo van and a three-door standard passenger van. Known issues on the 1987 Safari. Two recalls are recorded federally for this year. One involves replacement fuel filters that can fail to seal at the connection and leak gasoline where it may be ignited. The other describes recliner bolts sitting on a soft joint of foam or vinyl, losing their clamping torque, fatiguing and finally breaking, which lets the driver's seatback recline without warning. Owner complaints number 22, clustering on the engine and cooling system with six, then the steering with three and the body structure with two. Cooling, steering and seat procedures all carry their own specifications and torque values here.

HONEYWELL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE FUEL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOB
THE RECLINER MECHANISM AND THE SEAT FRAME MAY HAVE FOAM AND/OR VINYL BETWEEN THEM, CREATING A "SOFT" JOINT. THIS "SOFT" JOINT RESULTS IN LOWER THAN SPECIFIED BOLT TORQUE WHICH LEADS TO JOINT LOOSENESS
Consequence
IF BOLT FAILURE OCCURS TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT, IT WOULDALLOW THE SEAT BACK TO SUDDENLY RECLINE, AND CO
