Known issues on the 2002 Grand Prix. Oil and exhaust heat link the 3 recalls on the 2002 Grand Prix. Certain 2002 Grand Prix vehicles with the naturally aspirated 3.8L could have oil land on the exhaust manifold during hard braking and ignite beneath the heat shield. On certain 2002 Grand Prix vehicles with the supercharged 3.8L, higher temperatures at the front rocker cover gasket could break it down early and let oil seep out. A follow-up recall on certain 2002 Grand Prix vehicles already repaired for this problem replaced the front valve cover and gasket again.
