Known issues on the 2019 Malibu. One recall stands on the federal record for this year. It concerns rear seat belt retractors that may have been secured with loose or missing fasteners, so a retractor can fail to work properly in a crash and leave the occupant less protected than the design intends. Owners have filed 189 complaints, the heaviest group being 64 on the power train, then 51 on the electrical system and 20 on the engine.
