Known issues on the 2014 Malibu. Six recalls are on record. Cars built with rear brake rotors fitted at the front can shed a brake pad from its caliper and lose braking abruptly. On 2.5L cars with stop/start, brake vacuum assist can fail completely, so the pedal takes much more effort and the car takes longer to stop. A shift cable adjuster can come off the transmission lever, leaving the driver unable to select gears. Of 362 complaints, 73 name the electrical system, 63 the engine and 52 the power train.
