Known issues on the 2010 Malibu. Four recalls sit on the federal record. In one, the driver frontal air bag inflator can be overpressurized and burst when the bag deploys, throwing metal fragments into the cabin. In another, shift cable end tabs can fracture so the selector and the transmission disagree about the gear. A replacement intermediate steering shaft can separate at a u-joint bearing that its yoke does not properly support. Of 1,361 complaints, 455 concern steering, 215 the electrical system and 117 the power train.
