Known issues on the 2005 Malibu. Six recalls are listed against this model year. A sudden loss of electric power steering assist can occur at any time on the road, so the wheel becomes heavy at low speed. The transmission shift cable can fracture and let the indicated gear disagree with the gear engaged. A replacement fuel pump can seize, cutting fuel to the engine and stalling it.
