Known issues on the 2007 Malibu. Six recalls are on the federal record. Electric power steering assist can be lost suddenly while driving, so the effort at the wheel jumps at low speed. A transmission shift cable can break, leaving the selector position and the actual gear out of step, and a replacement steering shaft whose yoke does not properly support its u-joint bearing can separate and end steering control. A replacement fuel pump can seize and stall the engine. Complaints reach 992, led by 675 on steering, then 62 on the electrical system and 54 on the air bags.
