Known issues on the 2017 Explorer. Federal records list eight recalls for this Explorer. Turbocharger oil supply tubes on the turbocharged 3.5L could be improperly brazed and leak oil onto hot engine parts; steering gear heat shield fasteners could corrode and let the shield detach, so the gear could overheat and steering effort rise at low speed; and power front seat frames could have sharp edges within reach of occupants. Owners have filed 1,691 complaints with NHTSA, most on structure at 626, the engine at 146 and the power train at 112.
