Known issues on the 2006 Civic. Fifteen recalls are on federal record for this model year, most of them tied to the passenger-side frontal air bag inflator: separate campaigns cover units that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, or that were installed incorrectly and may not deploy properly in a crash. Other recalls cover a front passenger occupant detection system that can fail to suppress air bag deployment for an infant or small child, a wheel speed sensor O-ring that can let water reach the wheel bearing and eventually let a wheel come loose, a brake light switch that can fail from over-lubrication of the steering column, cutting brake lights and, on automatics, blocking the shifter out of park, an accelerator pedal that can come loose from its floor mounting and stick the throttle, a CNG fuel tank that may not vent properly in a severe rear-seat fire, rear windshield or quarter glass that can loosen or separate while driving, aftermarket replacement headlamps sold without amber side reflectors, and an owner's manual printed with the wrong NHTSA safety hotline number. Owners have filed 1,402 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged for the 2006 Civic in federal records.
