Known issues on the 2002 Civic. Twenty-four recalls are on federal record for this model year. Seven of them cover Honda's driver- and passenger-side Takata frontal air bag inflators, which can rupture from long-term propellant degradation, including a related campaign targeting vehicles registered in high-humidity states, plus a separate recall for passenger air bags that were installed incorrectly during earlier repairs. Away from the air bags, one recall covers a headlight switch whose wiring terminals can melt and knock out the low beams without warning, another addresses the same low-beam failure through an overheating wire harness, one covers CNG fuel tanks that may not vent properly in a severe rear-seat fire, and one covers a broken engine air cleaner box piece that can lodge in the throttle body and hold the throttle partially open. The rest of the count is aftermarket headlamp and glass equipment recalled from more than a dozen third-party suppliers for missing required amber side reflectors or, in one case, replacement side and rear glass that fails to break safely.
