Known issues on the 1999 Civic. Fifteen recalls are on federal record for this model year. The most serious covers the driver-side air bag: Non-Azide Driver Inflators without phase-stabilized propellant can absorb moisture and rupture on deployment, sending metal fragments toward the driver. A separate recall covers the ignition switch, where electrical contacts can degrade under the current drawn at startup and cause the engine to stall without warning. On the CNG-equipped GX, a fuel tank recall addresses uneven heating during a severe rear-seat fire that can prevent the pressure relief device from venting, risking a tank rupture. The remaining twelve recalls cover aftermarket corner, headlamp, and combination lamp assemblies sold for this Civic that lack the required amber side reflex reflectors, reducing the car's visibility to other drivers.
