Known issues on the 1987 Civic. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the front seat belt buckle assembly: the red plastic release buttons marked "PRESS" can break, and broken pieces can fall into the buckle and keep it from operating properly, so the belt would not provide adequate protection in a crash. The second covers the windshield wiper: under high ambient temperatures the front windshield wiper contact unit could loosen and become dislodged, causing wiper failure and affecting driver visibility. The third covers the owner's manual itself, which omitted safety belt information required under FMVSS 210, Sections 6A and 6B.
