Known issues on the 2019 Sequoia. Five recalls sit on the federal record for this vehicle. One, from Gulf States Toyota, concerns a vehicle label: if the driver cannot read the label, they may unknowingly overload the vehicle. Two concern the hydraulic power assist steering system — one covering JTEKT power steering gear assembly service parts for 2007-2021 Tundra and 2008-2022 Sequoia, the other covering 2008-2022 Sequoia and 2007-2021 Tundra vehicles whose power steering gear assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly — and in both an oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. The remaining two concern the gasoline fuel pump: if the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners have submitted 8 complaints for the 2019 Sequoia, and 99 technical service bulletins have been issued for it.
Four of those five recalls come down to two failures — a steering gear that weeps oil and a fuel pump that quits — so a 2019 Sequoia that loses steering assist or stalls at speed is worth working against Toyota's own procedure and the specifications published for this model year.
