The 2004 Toyota Sequoia was built around a single engine, the 4.7L V8 (2UZ-FE), in SR5 or Limited form, and the clearances, torque values and service sequences here are the ones Toyota released for this model year rather than figures carried over from an adjacent one.

Known issues on the 2004 Sequoia. Seven recalls sit on federal record for this model year. Three are filed against the front suspension lower control arm ball joint. One traces possible improper finishing of the front suspension lower ball joint to an incidental deterioration of the internal lubrication. A second covers joints whose ball surface may have been scratched in manufacturing, where the lower ball joint may separate from the knuckle causing loss of steering control. The third comes from Tenneco Automotive (DRiV), recalling certain aftermarket MOOG and NAPA ball joints for 2004-2007 Toyota Sequoia and 2004-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles, where a ball joint failure may cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash. The remaining four are air bag recalls. Two are filed against the passenger side frontal air bag inflator module, where an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. The other two are filed under air bags, and the concern arises in a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag. One of those two covers 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003 to August 19, 2004; the others reach further Toyota, Lexus and Pontiac vehicles named in the same campaigns. Owners have filed 576 complaints for the year and Toyota has issued 83 technical service bulletins.
Whether the job is a front lower ball joint inspection, air bag inflator work on the passenger side, or a routine service interval on the 4.7L V8, it keeps you on Toyota's own procedure and the correct figure for this 2004 Sequoia.
