Known issues on the 2017 Elantra. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two concern the frontal air bags: one covers the driver-side inflator module on cars built between April 15 and September 13, 2016, where an air bag that does not inflate fully increases the risk of injury in a crash, and the other covers frontal air bags, where an air bag that does not inflate increases the risk of injury. A third recall addresses the electric power steering system — a damaged Electronic Power Steering (MDPS) connector can result in a loss of electric power steering assist, which would require higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds. The fourth covers the brake booster, which may fail, resulting in a loss of power brake assist; that can lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle.
