Known issues on the 2008 Elantra. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two concern the fuel pump: the pump motor may not have the proper, uniform internal electrical surface contact, and poor engine starting and hesitation may result, along with other engine performance issues. Two more concern the frontal air bag sensors. One involves the weight sensor in the front passenger seat, where the front passenger air bag could deploy in crashes in which it should not deploy. The other involves the driver's seat track position sensor, where a higher pressure deployment than intended increases the risk of injury. A fifth covers the ABS module, where an electrical short may cause an engine compartment fire. The sixth covers the stop lamp switch: the stop lamps may fail to illuminate during braking, or the cruise control may be impossible to disengage. Owners have filed 424 complaints for the year and Hyundai has issued 38 technical service bulletins.
