2008 Ford F-550 Super Duty Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2008 Ford F-550 Super Duty covers the turbocharged 6.4L OHV V8 diesel, a 391 cubic inch engine, and the naturally aspirated 6.8L SOHC V10 of 415 cubic inches on gasoline. The chassis cab was built as a four-door crew cab, a two-door conventional cab and a four-door extended cab, in Base, XL, XLT and Lariat trims. The 6.4L diesel's exhaust aftertreatment and battery wiring feature in the recall record, and the procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics cover those systems along with the rest of both drivelines.

Known issues on the 2008 F-550 Super Duty. The 6.4L diesel draws two of the four recalls on this year's federal record. Its battery positive cable can contact a splash shield bolt, chafe and short, and excess exhaust hydrocarbons can overheat the diesel particulate filter, causing power loss, white smoke or even flame at the tailpipe; a third campaign covers driver seats with improper welds at the side pivot bracket. Owners have logged 26 complaints with NHTSA, eight on engine and engine cooling and four each on the power train and engine. The manual's diesel diagnostics, exhaust procedures, battery wiring diagrams and seat torque values cover those items.
