1988 Chevrolet S10 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1988 Chevrolet S10 has a bigger engine to account for than the earlier books: the 4.3-liter overhead-valve V6 of 262 cubic inches now joins the 2.8-liter V6 of 173 and the 2.5-liter four of 151, all naturally aspirated and all on gasoline. Three cab forms and four trims are covered. Three engines mean three sets of clearances, torque values and diagnostic trees in the engine mechanical section, with the wiring material following the differences each one brings.

Known issues on the 1988 S10. Four recalls are recorded federally for this model year. The one that matters most on the road involves the intermediate steering shaft loosening where it couples to the steering gear; the pinch bolt then wears into the shaft splines until the connection can separate and steering is lost. The other three concern replacement lamp assemblies lacking amber side reflectors. Owners have logged 39 complaints, led by service brakes with six, engine and cooling with five and body structure with four, all systems this manual specifies and diagnoses.
