Known issues on the 2015 Q5. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. Contact corrosion in the auxiliary heater's electrical connector can cause the wires to overheat and melt; the melted wires can increase the risk of a fire. The sunroof drainage system can let water reach the side head air bag inflator canister and corrode it until the inflator ruptures; an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death. On vehicles with 2.0L Turbo FSI engines, the electric coolant pump can become blocked with cooling-system debris and overheat; if the coolant pump overheats, it can increase the risk of a fire. In a related campaign, that same coolant pump can also become blocked or short-circuit from moisture; a blocked pump or a short-circuited pump can increase the risk of a fire. A fuel pump flange can crack and allow fuel to leak; a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. And driver and front passenger seat-mounted air bag inflators on vehicles built January 13 to February 3, 2015 may rupture in a crash; in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of a seat-mounted air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
