This factory service and repair manual for the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a great deal to hold together: a 4.3-liter V6, 4.8-, 5.3- and 6.2-liter V8s and a full-hybrid 6.0-liter V8, all overhead-valve and naturally aspirated, spread across standard, extended and crew cabs and seven trims. What keeps it workable is the arrangement. Specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostic charts are ordered by system and then by engine, so one job draws on one set of numbers.

Known issues on the 2012 Silverado 1500. Two recalls stand on the federal record, both about the same failure: a passenger-side frontal air bag inflator that can rupture as it deploys, turning the module into a source of sharp metal fragments aimed at the occupants. Owner complaints number 284 — 70 against the air bags, 36 against the structure and 21 against the engine. The restraint system components and circuit diagnostics, the body and frame procedures and the engine mechanical specifications those reports involve are all covered here.
