This factory service and repair manual for the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 spans five engines, from a 4.3-liter V6 up to a 6.0-liter V8, with two versions of the 5.3-liter V8 among them — one certified for flex fuel or gasoline, one a full hybrid. All are overhead-valve and naturally aspirated. Standard, extended and crew cab bodies and seven trims sit above that hardware, and the result is a book that branches early: engine work by displacement, electrical work by body and equipment, chassis work largely shared.

Known issues on the 2005 Silverado 1500. Eight recalls are recorded for this year. One describes fuel rail crossover tube retainer screws that break, letting fuel leak from the joint and the engine stall. A second involves a fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip that can fracture and release the damper. A third covers a shift lever position indicator that may not illuminate, so a driver cannot confirm the selected gear before the truck moves. Complaints total 1,185, weighted toward the electrical system at 336, the service brakes at 270 and steering at 104.
