This factory service and repair manual for the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reaches five engines, a full-hybrid version of the 5.3-liter V8 among them, and keeps each set of specifications separate from the others. Three cab bodies — standard, extended and crew — and seven trims running from WT through SS and Z71 Off-Road broaden the electrical and body coverage considerably. Torque values, clearances and diagnostic routines are given per engine and per body, so a technician follows one path instead of filtering a general one.

Known issues on the 2004 Silverado 1500. Eight recalls attach to this model year. One involves a fuel rail pulse damper whose retainer clip can fracture, letting the damper work loose and fuel escape where an ignition source may be waiting. Another covers parking brake friction linings that wear until the brake no longer holds a parked truck. A third concerns a hydraulic brake booster accumulator that can crack and separate during normal operation. Owner complaints come to 1,848: 677 on the service brakes, 498 on the electrical system, 140 on steering.
