Known issues on the 2004 MPV. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year, four of them tied to the front passenger air bag system. Two cover the passenger frontal air bag inflator module: propellant degradation from long-term humidity and temperature exposure can cause the inflator to explode, sending sharp metal fragments toward occupants and risking serious injury or death. A third covers the front passenger air bag's wiring, which was installed incorrectly and would not provide adequate protection in a crash. A fourth covers the air bag warning labels, which were printed for the Canadian market with English and French text, leaving the English portion too small to meet federal crash-protection labeling requirements. The fifth covers the tire inflation pressure listed on the certification label, which understated the correct maximum pressure and can lead to underinflated tires and reduced load capacity. Owners have filed 96 complaints for the year. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From an air bag inflator inspection to a labeling or tire-pressure check, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2004 MPV.
