In certain 1989 MPV vehicles, grease on the ignition switch contacts could become conductive and let the switch overheat, a fire risk; dealers installed a new switch. On certain 1989 MPV vans with front safety belts from a specific supplier, the buckle release buttons could break and drop pieces into the buckle, keeping it from working properly; owners were asked to check the front buckles and have any cracked or faulty one repaired or replaced, while a fix for intact buttons was being developed.
