This factory service and repair manual for the 1998 Ford F-250 covers a truck that by now ran only overhead-cam V8s: the 4.6L V8 and the 5.4L V8, the latter offered on gasoline, on CNG or as a bi-fuel gasoline and LPG engine. The two body styles are the two-door standard cab pickup and the three-door extended cab pickup, and the five trims are Base, Lariat, XL, XLT and XLT VIP. Alternative-fuel versions of the 5.4L get their own fuel system procedures, specifications and diagnostics beside the gasoline ones, with wiring diagrams for each configuration.

Known issues on the 1998 F-250. The federal record lists eight recalls for the 1998 F-250. Lug nuts on some trucks may not develop enough clamp load, so the wheel shifts on the hub until nuts loosen, studs fatigue and the wheel separates; fuel tank straps on lower-rated trucks can corrode and fail; and bi-fuel CNG conversions carried a noncompliant filler door label. Owners have filed 58 complaints with NHTSA, 13 of them on the suspension and seven each on the engine and cooling and on the service brakes. Wheel torque values, fuel tank, suspension and brake procedures and specifications in the manual cover those systems.
