1986 Ford F-250 Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1986 Ford F-250 covers the 5.8L V8, the 5.0L V8, the 7.5L V8 and the 4.9L inline-six on the gasoline side, plus the 6.9L V8 diesel, all of them OHV engines without turbocharging. The propane option on the inline-six drops off the list this year, so the 4.9L appears as a gasoline engine only. Two bodies were sold, the two-door extended cab pickup and the two-door standard cab pickup, in three trims: Base, XL and XLT Lariat. Known issues on the 1986 F-250. Federal records list two recalls for the 1986 model year. One involves spring lock fuel line couplings left not fully engaged at the factory, which can separate under fuel pressure, vibration and engine movement and spill fuel; the other is the omitted nose shield on the midship fuel tank, which failed the federal fuel-system-integrity crash test. Owners have filed 41 complaints with NHTSA, with 14 on the electrical system and five each on tires and on the engine and cooling.
