1997 Ford F-250 Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1997 Ford F-250 straddles two engine families. The new overhead-cam V8s, the 4.6L and the 5.4L, with the 5.4L also supplied to run on CNG, share the list with the older pushrod 5.0L V8 and 5.8L V8. The truck was built as a two-door standard cab pickup and a three-door extended cab pickup, and five trims are listed: Base, Lariat, XL, XLT and XLT VIP. Known issues on the 1997 F-250. Steering, fuel tanks and tires run through the eight recalls logged against this truck. One involves an intermediate steering shaft yoke that can separate from the steering gear and disconnect the steering; another covers fuel tank straps on lighter-rated trucks that corrode until they fail and let the tank drop; a third is the Firestone Wilderness AT tire replacement after tread separations. Owners have filed 311 complaints with NHTSA, with tires at 43, the power train at 32 and the service brakes at 29.
