This factory service and repair manual for the 1989 Ford Taurus takes in four engines. Known issues on the 1989 Taurus. Seven recalls are on federal record, two of them for front seat belt buckles that may refuse to unlatch when the release button is pressed or may not latch at all. Others cover the front strut sway bar bracket welds that can tear away, and power seat switch wiring that cushion springs can abrade until it shorts. Owners have registered 689 complaints with NHTSA, with seat belts the largest group ahead of the electrical system and engine and engine cooling.
